How to Make Pocket FIle Folders

At our house, we do not have a room designated to school time yet. We will use the kitchen table, the couch, my kids small table and chairs, the floor, pretty much wherever works. It's nice to just go wherever we want, but the down side of not having a "school room" is finding where to store all of our school supplies and materials.
For now, I have all of our preschool curriculum in about 5 or 6 D-ring binders on one of my bookshelves, and all of our supplies (crayons, scissors, manipulative's, etc) in a medium sized tote on top of our toy shelves. (The small, colored bins are what I use to separate the activities into days with).

Suffice it to say, I don't have a ton of room and need to maximize space where I can. I wanted to try and keep all of my curriculum materials in one spot. Most of it fits nicely into sheet protectors, but I was having a hard time finding a way to fit all my laminated, full size sheets in.

Enter Pocket File Folders. These will hold my laminated sheets and fit in my D-ring binders with out a problem and are now a must have in our house. (I have the feeling we will be good friends for years to come). These are a quick and easy make and won't require anything you don't already have at home.

Supplies needed:

Two file folders

Scissors
Glue
Stapler
Hole Puncher

Step 1: Cut tab off of both files to make straight edges.

Step 2: With folders facing the same directions, place one on top of the other, line the edge of the top folder up with the "crease" lines of the bottom folder. *Do not put the edge of the top folder in the middle of the bottom folder. If you do there will not be enough space inside the pocket once you punch the holes for the binder rings.

Step 3: Once you have everything lined up and at the spacing you want, glue the top folder to the bottom one.

Step 4: Next fold the left flap over and staple the bottom together.

This creates the pocket.

Step 5: Fold over the right flap and punch holes for binder.

Now put it in your binder and you are ready to go.
